NewsGermany and France agree C02 dealIrelandCarTrade.com, 06.11.08Germany and France have agreed a bi-lateral deal to cap CO2 emissions from news cars but the deal has come in for sharp criticism from the European Commission and environmental groups. The European Commission wants carmakers to to cap average emissions at no more than 120 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilometre by 2012, reducing to 95 grammes per kilometre by 2015. The French / German deal would see heavier vehicles excluded from stricter limits until 2015 and the maximum average to be between 95 and 110 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, but not until the year 2020. The EU says it has no plans to water down its proposal despite the existence of a deal between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Article from autotrade.ie
